PNR status — common questions
What does CNF (Confirmed) mean in PNR status?expand_more
CNF means your ticket is confirmed and you have a guaranteed seat or berth. Your coach and berth number are shown once the reservation chart is prepared, usually about 4 hours before departure.
What does RAC mean in PNR status?expand_more
RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) lets you board the train and share a side-lower berth with another RAC passenger. You are upgraded to a full berth if a confirmed passenger cancels.
What is the difference between WL, GNWL, RLWL, PQWL and TQWL?expand_more
WL means waitlisted. GNWL (General Waitlist) clears most often; RLWL (Remote Location) and PQWL (Pooled Quota) clear less often; TQWL is the Tatkal waitlist. The number is your position in the queue — lower is better.
What does "Chart Prepared" mean in PNR status?expand_more
Chart Prepared means Indian Railways has finalised the reservation chart, usually about 4 hours before departure. After this, your CNF or RAC status and berth allotment are final.
